Frequently asked questions
Can I paste a TikTok link instead of a file?
No — CaptionForge processes files locally and never talks to TikTok's servers, so it needs the video file itself. Saving the file takes a few seconds (see the steps above) and keeps the whole flow private: no third-party downloader service sees what you're transcribing.
Is this free?
Yes — transcription and transcript export (text, SRT, VTT) are free and unlimited. TikToks are far under the free tier's 3-minute video cap, so there's no practical limit here.
How accurate is the transcript?
Whisper-class accuracy: strong on clear speech, weaker on heavy background music or unusual names — the same trade-off every transcription tool has. Misheard words are one click to fix in the editor before you copy or download.
Can I transcribe someone else's TikTok?
Technically yes, if you have the file — for quoting, research, accessibility or translation that's normal fair use territory. The content still belongs to its creator; don't repost someone's video as your own.
Does the video get uploaded to your servers?
No. The speech recognition runs inside your browser tab — watch the Network panel while it transcribes and you'll see no upload. We couldn't read your videos if we wanted to.
Non-English TikToks?
Yes — Whisper auto-detects among 99 languages. There's also a built-in experimental any-language-to-English translation mode, free and clearly labeled as beta.
